Lead, plan, coordinate and implement epidemiological activities to support clinical trials, regional, country and cluster needs and non-Development needs. Assist the Global Head of Epidemiology in defining and implementing strategic direction for epidemiology function in line with Novartis Vaccines’ objectives.
The position is a strategic and scientific role which includes 1) consultation with Novartis Vaccines’ partners to assess and triage needs, 2) design and implementation of a coordinated strategy for vaccine projects globally and 3) work creatively to maximise the potential of the Company’s products and ensure support for appropriate target product profile claims and messages.
• Assist the Global Head of Epidemiology in the development of strategies and policies and their implementation. • Provide epidemiological support to: development (clusters), pharmacovigilance, medical affairs, research, marketing, regulatory and commercial Novartis Vaccines functions. • Develop strategies for and lead new development efforts in epidemiology, surveillance and related fields. • Provide scientific input for and plan the management of complex epidemiological studies • Primary responsibility for development of study design and data collection for epidemiologic studies • Partner with external groups conducting epidemiologic and other community studies globally; initiate and manage external collaboration globally • Assess epidemiology project progress and evaluate results; implement changes in methods or design where necessary • Design data collection forms and maintain tracking database for clinical isolates to support relevant functions in alignment with other epidemiology groups within Novartis • Author final reports summarizing study results • Write and co-author manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication • Make presentations to the scientific, medical and public health communities at national and international meetings • Develop and monitor study budgets • Assist with development and implementation of standard operating procedures. |

• Medical Degree or PhD with specific training in epidemiologic methods preferred (eg, MPH degree or applied epidemiology training such as Epidemic Intelligence Service (CDC), European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) or Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) • Experience in public health field and/or medical informatics and/or biostatistics • Experience in designing and/or conducting international epidemiologic studies, preferably in the vaccine field • Leadership, decision making and organisational skills (staff, time, projects and budgets) • Fluency in English, and strong oral and written skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Should be highly motivated, creative and possess strong analytical skills |
